Friday ~ April 15th

Our 37th day and still going strong! I am so excited about losing a couple more pounds! We've been eating, pretty much, the same foods. I have been having fun with some new recipes like egg, onion, sausage & sour cream wraps. Feeling slimmer!! Happy :)

I haven't been able to post but rest assured, I have been doing great! I'm stronger, happier and much healthier. I'm hoping that I'll be back on track with my postings on Monday. :)

Still Day 11

Angelina had a birthday party to go to today. It was at The Chocolate Works. Just by the name, I knew I was in trouble. At first, I was just going to say she couldn’t go but the kids were talking in school and I would feel horrible if I did that. She went and had a fabulous time! She made a candy pizza which was a big rice crispie covered with chocolate and topped with candy. She also made a candy kabob. I saw her sneaking a couple candies but I just smiled and gave her a wink. What’s so ironic is that her CCD teacher worked there and was the hostess. She knows about our sacrifice and was so awesome about giving Angie a tiny piece of cake with barley no frosting with an ice cream cup. She hasn’t complained in 11 days! She deserved it!! On the way home she said she couldn’t wait to taste it on Easter!?!? Is she awesome or what!?!?

Day 7 ~ Tuesday March 15, 2011

Lots of energy today! It’s like my body and brain just realized how happy it is without the sugar. It seems like Angie and I really lost our desire to eat just for the sake of eating. Angie was constantly hungry before. Now I offer her snacks. I had a lunch meeting at work today. The lunch served is usually pizza or these big sandwiches with big ‘ol rolls and Caesar salad with enormous croutons, plenty of soda and cookies too!! I brought my salad. I definitely felt weird being the only one refusing a free meal but didn’t care a bit about those sandwiches! I did, however, take a couple halves home for Cameron. He loved that for an after school snack!
I had Zumba tonight! I LOVE Zumba!!! It’s so much fun! When I first started, I thought I would be really intimidated as I have a lot of insecurity issues with myself but there are so many women (all shapes & sizes) there for ONE reason!! I see these women transforming before my eyes and know, for a fact, my day is coming!!!

Mom:
Breakfast: Coffee, orange
Snack: roasted peanuts
Lunch: Turkey, artichoke salad w/ salt and pepper

Dinner: Couple bites of Angie’s leftover chicken & 3 cheddar & whole grain crackers

Besides my part time job, I also clean houses. I really do enjoy it and I actually find it very relaxing! That’s what I did this morning. I came home pretty hungry and wondering what Angie had been up to (food-wise). I am so thrilled to find my husband right on board! He’s so good checking labels now realizing we are serious. He kept Angelina completely satisfied throughout the day with sugar-free food. He also made such a fabulous meal for us tonight as well as satisfying the boys hunger! Thank God for such a supportive husband!

Snack: Tortilla chips with nacho cheese dip
Dinner: Grilled chicken with whole grain pasta with a mayo, milk, parmesan cheese & garlic. Made by Dad and delicious!!

Yummy Red Wine

A dry red wine has no added refined sugar. The only sugars in wine are from the grapes themselves. It’s no secret that I enjoy my red wine but I’m not posting my wine intake in the daily posts! Let’s just say, I may (or may not) have a glass here or there. J

Day 4 ~ Saturday ~ March 12, 2011

We feel great today! Especially after the weigh in!! Angelina’s belly is noticeably smaller!! For the first time EVER she has soft stool. I can’t believe sugar is the cause of her life long battle with constipation! And she’s very happy & active! Me too ~ lots of yard work to do today. I started yesterday and it’s a workout in itself so not feeling guilty about skipping out on Zumba. I made a big pot of French onion soup. Probably my lunch for the week! Delicious! Can you tell I went shopping today? LOL Found lots of sugar-free stuff including cookies for Angie’s lunch box! So expensive but worth it!

Day 3 ~ Friday ~ March 11, 2011

Angie stayed home from school today. She had a little stomach bug which was only a little clear, watery spit up and loose stool. I’m not sure it even was a stomach bug. Being home all day, I’m getting really hungry. We tried sweet potatoes and we both hate them. We also tried whole grain brown rice which was awful but hopefully hubby can find a way to doctor it up for me. Starting to get bored with this plain whole food already!! I want cake!!

Day 1 ~ Ash Wednesday ~ March 9, 2011

The first day was not so bad. I was a little tired after lunch and had a black coffee. Definitely picked me up! Angie was fine and happy all day. We both loved our dinner. She asked if we could have it even after Lent ended. J When I tucked her in to bed, I told her how proud I was of her to do this for Jesus. That made her feel really good about herself.

Mom:
Breakfast: Coffee, Apple
Lunch: Chicken Salad w/ salt & pepper, coffee
Dinner: Lemon & Garlic Chicken, whole grain fettuccini, asiago cheese

Angie:
Breakfast: Cantaloupe & grapes
Snack: Apple
Lunch: Chicken Salad dry
Dinner: Lemon & Garlic Chicken, whole grain fettuccini, asiago cheese
Dessert: Strawberries

Why?

The Monday before Lent, Angelina went to CCD. Her teacher explained Lent and the idea that we all should ‘give-up’ something for Jesus until Easter comes. On the ride home, we talked all about it. What could we give up that we really liked for 46 days? A lot of ideas came up. Mitchell said video games are out of the question so he’s going to try really hard to stop biting his finger nails! Cameron really doesn’t have any vices. He’s healthy, eats good, distinguished honors BUT can be a little rude to family members. He is going to try to compliment people more and loose the sarcasm.
It just so happens that the day before this CCD class, a local public TV station had a fundraiser. Dr. Amen was fascinating explaining the effects of food, vitamins and sugar on the body. I suggested to Angelina that we should give up SUGAR for Lent. She was right on board. How hard could it be? Right? WRONG!
SUGAR IS IN EVERYTHING!!
